You’ve decided to take the bootcamp plunge ay?
Well congratulations on making that tough decision and choosing to change your life.
Luckily, your first taster session is completely free, so you’re not losing anything by trying something new, and you can ensure you’re ready to smash-it on bootcamp day with the information in this blog.
We’ve put together our five top tips for those attending a bootcamp for the first time, so you can ensure you’re ready to smash-it on the day.
#1 Show up hydrated
That’s right, get plenty of water throughout the day and before you come to class. You should still bring a bottle of water with you on the day, however that is going to be mainly used for sipping between exercises.
If you’re doing it right, you’re going to sweat a lot throughout your workout and you need to ensure your body has plenty of water on hand to replace the water lost.
You’ll find it difficult to work out with a stomach full of water, so be sure to increase your fluid intake in the hours leading up to your boot camp session.
#2 Positive mental attitude
Changing your life for the better isn’t going to be easy, and achieving the best things in life rarely are. This Is where your mind kicks-in and gives you the power to succeed.
The most important thing you’ll need on boot class day is a positive, can-do attitude. You’ll push yourself harder and further than you ever thought possible, as-long as you bring your A-game.
When your muscles start to burn and your body says no, it’s the strength of your mind and laser-focus that will lead you to achieve your goals.
Once the work out is over, and the endorphins kick-in, we guarantee you’ll feel a million bucks. Nothing will compare.
#3 Engage with your instructor
Your instructor is there to provide support and guide you through your training. See them as a wise old owl and be sure to communicate with them throughout.
If you find yourself struggling, let them know, if you’re not sure about an exercise, let them know, if you are struggling with an injury, let them know.
Your trainers are there to support you and when you speak to them about an issue you’ll find they will be able to help you work around the problem. Using them as a distraction can also prove invaluable during the toughest exercises.
Focus on their voice instead of the struggle, and you’ll find you push yourself that bit further.
#4 Monitor your breathing
Don’t forget to breathe!
We don’t want you turning blue mid-movement, so don’t forget to breathe.
It’s a natural reaction to hold your breath as you exert maximum force, but monitoring your breathing will allow you to re-train your body and breathing patterns.
You’ll find breathing out as your push/pull gives you that extra “oomph” you didn’t even know you had.
#5 Record your progress & celebrate wins
Did you do 10 press-ups this week compared to 8 press-ups last week? Did you get further through the program than you did the month before? Have you dropped half a stone since you started?
If you keep track of your workouts and progress, you can see how far you’ve come.
Oftentimes we don’t notice our bodies changing, which makes it difficult to celebrate your successes.
Take advantage of free applications for your phone, or even go “old-school” with a pen and paper. When you keep track of how you’re doing and you’ll find yourself more motivated than ever.
So there you have it, our top five tips for getting boot camp ready. When you show up to your first fitness class, you can ensure you’re ready to rock.
Most find themselves carrying out research on new fitness regimens when they’re in the “change your life” mood.
Don’t let those feelings escape! Don’t let yourself wake-up tomorrow and forget about the goals you want to achieve. You’ll only regret the chances you don’t take, and sooner or later the yearn you have to achieve your goals will re-surface.
